I often find a sense of tranquility hidden within jazz music. It succeeds to calm when Sinatra fails. I seem to be listening to Jazz more that unual of late, seeking refuge lost in the improvised and seemingly chaotic beauty of John Coltrane or [my new favourite] the Kenny Barron Trio. Jazz reminds me, though I have no idea why, that disintegrating into quaking despair beneath the cumulative impact of lifes challenges is simply not the right way to face the bombastic nature of life. Doing so leaves you feeling haggard and emotionally deformed; the opposite of how I feel when I listen to Jazz. Sometimes it seems to mimic the architecture of my mind; in fact, I have become accustomed to the notion that if someone were to write a musical piece to mirror my mind, it would resemble the Kenny Barron Trio in this song

It reminds me of the violent joult of city life, of busy trains and crowded foot paths, of strings of coffee orders and the clacking of running high heels. I cannot help but smile as the seeds of this thought take root in my mind; there is a relaxing feeling to be found in the uncontrolable madness of the city, and of jazz music
